OBSESSION FOR EXPRESSION

Why make things? It requires huge amounts of time, energy, and money to construct something that many people see as frivolous or irrelevant... but still these things have great meaning to the maker, and give meaning to our existence. There are many reasons to make things, but at the heart of it is a compulsion for expression... Like the guy in his garage making some crazy invention, or a lady making insanely intricate quilts, or the person who builds a grotto or sculpture garden in their back yard- there is an obsession to make things to get them out of your head and into the world, to leave yourself a milepost that marks the passage of time and an accumulation of effort. It is the ideas that travel through your brain and the impulses buzzing around your nervous system made visible in a language of your own invention.
