MAKING WITH COMPASSION & SURPRISE

Design is a special kind of thinking that involves concept, function, invention of process, perception, and a kind of visual poetry. It makes us reconsider objects and functions we experience so often that they become invisible, except when someone reinvents them- because then we experience them for the first time again. To a certain extent, all art is designed- even if it is just the framework around which improvisation is built. Nearly all created, manufactured, or invented activities are given some thought as to their design... as soon as we consider their creation process, how they are used, and how they are experienced, we can alter them to make them more relevant, useful, and effective.... but having said that textbook stuff, there has to always be an element of fun, weirdness, or surprise or what's the point?
